celebrating on Rosh Chodesh Kislev

Today is Rosh Chodesh Kislev. How do you feel about celebrating a day that the Rebbe came out of his room after not being publicly seen since Shemini Atzeres 5738, in other words - the day the Rebbe recovered - now that it's Kislev 5762 and we haven't seen the Rebbe in years?

To me, this is lesson we should take from Rosh Chodesh Kislev:

After the Rebbe's heart attack few people were able to see the Rebbe, the Rebbe was "hidden" from us. But since we then followed the Rebbe's instructions to be b'simchah (as the Rebbe told one of the elder Chassidim who broke out in tears when he saw the Rebbe hooked up to the wires: If you care about my gezunt be b'simchah.)

As people were doing more and more peulos so that the Rebbe should have a refuah shleimah, we were actually able to see the results. Every Mozoei Shabbos when the Rebbe would say the Maaor you were able to notice that the Rebbe's voice and health were getting better, until Rosh Chodesh Kislev when we were actually merited to see the Rebbe. The Rebbe told us to do something, we did it, and we merited to see the results.

From this day we take the courage and bitachon, that now too, if we should only follow the Rebbe's clear instructions we too will witness the results: The coming of Moshiach Tzidkeinu when the Rebbe will take us out of Golus.

A lesson to learn from this is to have the same fealing chassidim had then waiting for the Rebbe, that he is for sure going to come back and the earlier possible.

jude - It's a valid point you raise, with two very valid answers. You could also ask the same about all the Lubavitch Yomim Tovim for the other Rabeim etc. The Geula and Nissim that happened on other Yomim Tovim do not vanish once the Tzadik has been Nistalek. They still happened, and are here for the Chassidim to celebrate, and from that become stronger from it all, to bring Moshiach even closer.

We (meaning those of us born after tof shin lamed ches) celebrate Rosh Chodesh even now - b/c in if not for the great miracle of Rosh Chodesh we would have never seen the Rebbe. At least now we have some memories of the Rebbe which we can give over to the oyunger generation who unfourtionatly did not have the zechus to see the Rebbe, to get dollars etc. So we sure do have great reason to celebrate on this day!

Simchas Torah night Chassidim farbrenged and then made hakafos with tremendous simcha (as per the Rebbe's request). While dancing, they sang the tune of "zol shoin kumen di Geula" with the words "der Rebbe zol zein gezunt" (the Rebbe should be healthy). Later they changed the words to, "der Rebbe vet gezunt zain" (the Rebbe will be healthy), and even later the words changed to, "der Rebbe iz gezunt" (the Rebbe is healthy!).

"Der Rebbe iz gezunt" while the Rebbe was under intensive care for a number of heart attacks ...

A ten page pamphlet was given out in 770 this year on R.Ch. Kislev at the farbrengen which describes (Heb.) the events that took place back in 5738. There is a note at the end of it though, that says that it is based on a number of reshimos and personal diaries that were written at the time, and that it is possible that it contains inaccuracies and certain things based on hearsay.

Leayis - how were you able to sing "der Rebbe iz gezunt" - which is a statement of fact, as opposed to "der Rebbe zol zein gezunt" and "der Rebbe vert gezunt" which are hopes/wishes/prayers?

When that question is answered, you will not like the answer, as many of the... issues can and should be answered the same way.

In addition to that song having been sung after many reports of the Rebbe ZYA æöå÷ììä"ä æé"ò ðáâ"î doing things that seemed impossible "al pi tevah" - as those that were there remember, IOW the song was sung in the context of what was actually happening.

as told by R' Avrohom Maiyor:

The son of R’ Moshe Binyamin Kaplan told me about a certain professor (Doctor), a big expert, who was one of those who examined the Rebbe at that time (Shemini Atzeres 5738). I don’t want to say his name. We all know Dr. Weiss. He was so amazed by the Rebbe that he became a Chassid, but this professor that I’m telling you about, was a completely different type. A very cold sort, and hard, to the point that they say about him that even if he became a baal teshuva he wouldn’t disclose it because of the shame involved.

Anyway, this professor had absolute humility before the Rebbe. When he was asked, “What did you find in the Rebbe?” he said, “When I came to the Rebbe, I saw that the heart and body were in serious shape, really gone. In all my cases, I know that the heart is the organ in charge, and someone with a heart in that condition, like the Rebbe’s, cannot work at all. Yet with the Rebbe I saw, for the first time in my life, a person whose mind rules absolutely and completely!”

This is what the professor said. He wasn’t talking Chassidus. He didn’t even know of the concept of “mo’ach shalit al ha’lev” (the mind rules the heart). He spoke in dry, medical terms. The big expert was astounded, and expressed his amazement about a medical condition, that in all the cases he had seen, he had never encountered anything like it. A case where the heart and body were in the condition they were in and only the head and brain ruled the body absolutely, in a way that amazed him and that he had never previously encountered.

what's the story with the Rebbe saying a maamar and the EKG? I heard that Dr. Weiss tells an amazing story. What is it?

I heard him speak.

He says that the Rebbe had arrythmia during the Sicha, and during the Maamar, the heartbeat was 100% normal.

The Rebbe later commented, "You enjoyed the Maamar, right?"

Why do we celebrate the first night and day of rosh chodesh, if in 5738 there was no 30 cheshvan, only 1 kislev?!

Actually this year in Yeshiva the Bochurim came out with a "Kislev Megillah" I myself haven't seen it, but I heard it's great. It is in the same format as Megillas Esther, but it's the days of Kislev!
