yaldah, don't be scared of "the big city", NY is a very fun place, and it will offer you a lot of freedom... If you look for the good, you'll find it.

Not to spread any Loshon Hara, but its BR is not the greatest place to be, and especially if youre an OTT. BR is all about cliques and trend and "in" etc. Its also a very big school and doesnt give you much of a chance to let your personality grow or show.

it's very strange... I have heard the most mixed messages about BR than any other school. Some girls (both in towners and out of towners) tell me it's the BEST school ever and they LOVE it soo much. Other girls (again both in & out of towners) tell me that its so big a cliquey and its all social etc. I guess it really depends on your personality...

Keep in mind that academically, each school offers a different style. Bais Rivkah is mainly into memorization; other schools emphasize learning skills more (with the effect that they end up covering less ground).

I hated Bais Rivkah, big socialites might love it. But school is not all about the social scene (I found friends there and I hated it anyway).

it totally depends on what time of school you're looking for some people need to be able to go to a school that we'll allow them more freedom some need to go to a school that is very extreme about BR i personally hated it but it depends on what type of person you are. i personally felt that they didn't address any issues that anyone had. we were definitely not encouraged to ask questions we had on yiddishkeit. that's one of the biggest problems with the school systems today. that's why there are so many confused teens. i hate the term "at risk". i think it's a derogatory term. they are just confused and have no one to answer their questions. usually they won't ask their questions lest they be labeled as "going off."

the BR staff is real good i think, i liked all my teachers and e/t but if ur quiet PLEASE DONT TRY IT, im on the more quiet side though not terribly shy and i HAAAATE it, our classroom is three big clicks (howvere u spell it). i think theres a reason the term "bais rivka snobs" came about. and yep ive also hear "californian snobs" but never heard of chicago snobs, thoguh ive never been there. i think the girls in BR r SNOBS and i HATE it.

if you're looking for intense learning of chassidus, many farbis, dont mind having alot of tests (you'll have many ppl to study with, and you'll also get a sister), and also want to have fun and live among many girls and feel like your still at home even when your away, then Bnos Rabbeinu is the place for you
p.s. you learn very interesting stuff!
i went there and i loved everything about it!

I like Bais Chomesh; I also heard Bnos Rabbeinu is really good, despite the politics in Chicago.

If anything the real LGHS is great. Girls in bnos rabbeinu aren't so impressed with the learning lately.

I know some Bnos Rabbeinu girls, and some girls who were in LGHS before the split, and they're very chassidish.

All the girls that were in Lghs before the split are super chassidish, b/c teh truth of the matter is LGHS before it became Bnos Rabbeinu was one of the best schools, now its just 2 mediocre schools, both of them now though are trying extreemly hard to retain tehir old reputation of excellence, to the disappointment of some of us lazier students

personally i say toronto is a great choice. and i speak from personal experiance of going there. the atmosphere is very chayusdik and warm. everyone is friends! i love school! as a matter of fact i lmiss school so much now that its the end of the summer!!! the learning is great and most of the school is striving to be chassidish. the popular girls are chassidish, thats what makes such a difference. i would definetely recommend bais chomesh.

Yes, yellowflag. As a matter of fact, I had just finished speaking to one of the girls there before I posted that comment and that was one of the things we had been discussing. And yes, I agree neither of the schools are what the original LGHS once was (and I know taht from experience :-) )

I know that, and I wish it was still the same.
By the way, I heard from someone that beis rivka is getting better and girls are becoming more chassidish.
