Clear nail polish is fine. Wearing it to a Simcha is fine. Wearing flashy colors or wearing it every day is not fine.
Shmush- why are you asking? You know full well that an obsession with nails is not the mark of a Chassidish girl. Do you blame the world for considering it inappropriate? |

someone I know holds that because nails are klipah it doesn't make sense to beautify them. Use nail polish sparingly

whats wrong with wearing nail polish?.. please..just with everything else on this site, it depends how you look at it.But there is absolutly nothing wrong with a girl/ women wanting her hands to look nice. Of course there is a limit (.... Im not saying wearing bright pink or green etc ) but a nice pale pink or yes even a nice shade of brown. if its put on well and looks nice....so what? enjoy it!!!! remember this is why so many youngsters are put of and turn away from being frum = for these reasons. If they could understand that you could still be "normal" and live in the world, and be frum at the same time.....well you get my drift.

why is nail polish on the toenails considered worse than nail polish on the finger nails? like if you polished your toenails people would look at you in a way that says your not chassidish. why is that?

This is just my train of thought, it probably makes no sense, BUT...
Nailpolish on your fingers everyone can see, because your fingers are never coverd. But if you have them on your toes, well, there's no point in it being there if no-one can see it!! So you just gotta wear open toed shoes, which, for some reason, is ![]()

I don't see what is wrong with nail-polish.
Like someone said before, it's the way you look at it. Is wearing make-up also a "no-no"? I mean why put on lipstick, you're gonna attract people to look at your lips etc? ![]()

Well, yeah, some kinds of makeup are "no-nos." Apparently tolerance is lower for nail polish colors (I've never heard any complaints about clear.)

I'm saying that a 16 year old girl should not be a fool.
I'm saying that makeup and fashion makes a difference in perceptions and that this fact should play a role in how a young lady presents herself to the world. [edited by cyberlub]

not specifically a woman's ... both hair and nails are associated with kelipa (they have a diminished life force which is why they can be cut without pain)
but so what? a sheitel does not beautify hair, it covers/replaces hair! |

...Except that lips are not Klipa.
Hair dye is to hair as nail polish is to nails. I think that covers it. |

I may be wrong, but to me it seems that there is no logical reason why nail polish is less acceptable than lipstick.
However, even without a logical reason, Minhag Hamakom plays a role. (Same idea (though to a lesser degree) as nose rings vs. earrings) http://www.chabadtalk.com/forum/show...&threadid=1360 |

the reasoning may be that lips are naturally pink/red and a pink/red lipstick enhances the natural color
nails are colorless/pale pink - which is why clear, translucent, or pale pink nailpolish is acceptable to many |

a lot of lipstick colors that frum/chassidish people wear has very little resemblance to the original lip color.

the point is, lips have a color and lipstick enhances that color
indeed, when the colors are inappropriate (like almost black) they are not considered tzniusdik |
