Winter Solstice has plenty of significance in various non-Jewish religions. The holiday "Saturnalia" identified in various places in the Gemara was likely a solstice festival. For ancient Egyptians, it also likely marked the ascent of Osiris. With Wikipedia at my disposal, I could go on and list other pagan religions that found the solstice important, as well.

For Jews, this day is has no special significance whatsoever. It likely should stay that way.

No special positive significance.

But isn't there tumah associated with the solstice? Or sakana?

I think the SA in the halachos mishum sakana mention that we should cover water cisterns and the like for the duration of the solstice,
