Not being affected by doing necessary aveiros

I have a friend in a situation in which he has to regularly be mechaleil Shabbos--of course, due to pikuach nefesh needs. How does he not become affected by this, and on some level lose his sense of kedushas haShabbos in general? Or, at least, how can he minimize the negative impact of it?
