Was it really a watermelon?
We all know the story about how the investigator threw a watermelon with a note from the Alter Rebbe from the window.
But to the best of my knowledge, watermelons are not in season at this time of year in Eastern Europe. Is it possible that there is a mistake in translation? "ARBOOZ" in Russian is watermelon, whereas "HARBOOZ" is pumpkin in Ukrainian and maybe other Slavic languages. It makes much more sense that it was a pumpkin. Does anyone know the source of the story and whether it's possible that it was mistranslated?

I heard that the note was at the bottom of a jam bottle.

There were two notes. One in the food (radish preserves IIRC) and one, with Shema Yisrael, in a watermelon (or maybe pumpkin).
