and the spirit of G-d was hovering over the face of the water.
I have seen some meforshim commenting on this posuk the following (based on a Medrash):
"and the spirit of G-d, etc." - This is the spirit of Moshiach. What does it mean?! And I also do not understand the pshas of that Posuk. Rashi's commentary on that posuk is על פני תהום: על פני המים שעל הארץ. This does not help me too. And also, should we read "breath" instead of "spirit"? (As רוח can mean both.)

To my understanding, The Spirit, was over and above all the waters.
The waters can be and are oft likened to teachings which may enlighten and escalate a level of awareness. They are associated with varied disciplines and belief systems, (ie, "the waters of Judah") In Genesis the waters covered the earth. Should the full knowledge and presence of Truth permeate all the "waters", it would also occasion mass annihilation. |
