yichud with family

i have a nephew who is turning 12. i am not allowed to be in the house with him alone. i think its crazy.. my own nephew

It's not stam that the last 2 alioyos of Parshas Achrey Mos forbid all the arayos relationships despite our own question about how much they might apply to our tendencies. The yichud laws are therefore very in place.

The norms of Torah often seem crazy when contrasted with the so-called norms of the society in which we live. By itself, this means nothing. Just take a look at the moral decay around you.

On the other hand, there may be halachic dispensations permitting it, depending on the precise circumstances and need.
