The Ger Toshav - the Resident Sojourner

There is the the usual Ger Tzedek - the full convert to Judaism.

There is also the considerably more complicated issue of the Ger Toshav - the "Resident Sojourner", mentioned 46 times in the Torah.

The Ger Toshav is a spiritually evolved Noahide, or a part biologically Jewish non-Jew, who is unable or unwilling to undergo full conversion and take on the yoke of full mitzvah observance, but who nevertheless believes in Hashem and wishes to reside amongst and formally affiliate and attach himself to the Jewish People, becoming what is referred to by the Sages as its "Fourth Family".

Last year the Israel Chief Rabbinate officially recognised the status of Ger Toshav for the first time in 2,500 years, and it is surprising that this solution of the Torah for resolving the problem of the Russian olim and many others around the world, is not being advertised and pursued.

It would be better for many converts today to have become outstanding Gerei Toshav, than mediocre or even failed Gerei Tzedek!
