was that said tongue in cheek?
somehow, I'm not sure Begun would take that as a compliment

Jude,

there are a number of reasons that es pasy nisht. 1) as you say its not our nigunim (this may be the least of the problem) 2) the whole demeaner of the kids in the group is not good. their modern and the way he makes them behave in public with all the shtik etc. also the time thats must go into rehersals etc.

i may be overdoing it but its a gutt feeling that i have. it smell to high heaven and not a rei'ach of ketores.

What Leayis is saying would be the gut feeling of any chassidisher yid. It is not always quantifiable but ignore at your own risk. This BTW is where a good mashpia comes into play.

Just curious how you knew these boys were chabad?

I think this whole setup is terribly goyish, and terrible for little kids, i don't know about girl worshipping, i think it's the other way round, actually, cuz they are little boys, but to me it's amazing how parents will let their young kids become corrupted by this silly adulation
I honestly don't see how anybody can come out of this non scarred.
As an aside their music is incredibly good and Begun is a genius

Uhhh.... I wouldn't say Begun is a genius - I'd say he's washed up. You may notice that a LOT of his songs sound EXACTLY like his old stuff redone - compare Bisiyata Dishmaya and Min Hashomayim to each other! The arrangements are rarely original, the soloists on his recent stuff are shvach... Yuk!

I'm obviously not one of their fans...

Oh man, just leave the guy alone! What exactly are you accomplishing by telling us about the musical quality of his songs?!!?

Look - I'm passionate about good music, and I'm dispassionate about bad music! Sorry. :-p

Stam, Zalman Goldstein has come out with another Yaron Gershovsky solo piano niggunim release. It's very relaxing, but not exactly the kind of thing you can listen to constantly. Both are good buys for mekuravim who want classy, but simple music.

ditto for that

it's more lively than the first one ( totally chassidic) though, has more character.

if u like classical music, the CD of last yr's Chabad centennial celebration is exquisite.

Definitely - a not-yet-frum friend of mine heard it playing in our car, and said, "Hey! This can't be Jewish music - too much quality!" Hmmm...

experiment: convert nigun to techno, play it to a goy, to a jew who is not frum, to a jew , who is frum, to a hassidic jew etc and see if any of them distinguish it from other such techno music....

I, for one, highly doubt that... But I guess it's the lesser of two evils...

Piamenta's first Jewish recording has been rereleased, so no worries - I've destroyed my copy and bought the CD! It's good stuff - lots of improvisation. Stam, on the label, it says, -not exact quote - "We hope listening to this recording will bring you closer to Torah" or something like that... veho rayeh what I've said that Piamenta is more or less lesheim shomayim. Otherwise why would he stick that in the CD jacket??

i didnt get that post
downunda (by the way that place rox whewrever it is) the point is that it is a gr8 way to get more teens to wanna listen to niggunim rather than pop rap and all that stuff like one day just listen to about 5 songs of the radoin and then get bak to me and tell me wouldf u rather ur kids listen to non jewish music or techno nigginim. b/c every second word has a double meaning and every other word explains the double maning

Is there some specific reason why the Ukranian niggunim happen to be drinking songs?
