Where to live in Northern Jersey??

Hi all, my chossun and I are moving close to NYC this summer and while we would both love to live in Crown Heights, NYC rents/taxes are just not in our budget. We both daven at Chabad and so we were wondering what, if anything, people know about either the communities of the Chabad in Hoboken or Chabad of Jersey City?

We're both ba'alei teshuva and like diverse crowds, but would feel uncomfortable if we ended up in a community where the only people who keep kosher are us and the Rabbi!

Any assistance you could give would be gratefully received

go to
www.chabad.org and call the Chabad houses from North NJ
you have Teaneck, Tenafly, Morristown,West Orange,Livingston
I dont think that Rents are not going to be much lower than Crown Heights
to buy:Home prices are going to be lower ,but property taxes very hight

Hi Chossidnistar,

I appreciate the suggestion, but we really have to stay in either Jersey City or Hoboken for commute reasons. Are those two communities just too small to have much of a 'reputation'?

Thanks and good shabbos,
Kopoljones..

They are not communities as far as I know.
I do not know where you are commuting to but Teaneck has
a lot to offer and is very accessible to the city.
Nothing is cheap in NY. You should also consider commuting
costs as if you live in the NYC you do not have to pay to get in/out.
Crown Hts is much cheaper than you think on the other hand.
Indeed as chosson and kallah one needs to live in a community
where you can be invited out shana rishona.

no communities there
CH is cheaper than Hoboken and maybe same as JC
I DON'T think that there is a daily minyam in Jersey City or Hoboken
and if you save some money in the rent in JC,(I doubt) you spend much more than the difference in transportation

Hi,

I live in Jersey City and have been involved with Chabad of Hoboken for 4 years. They certainly do exist and are active.

Hoboken and Jersey City are much cheaper than NYC. Jersey City is cheaper than Hoboken. The waterfront area in Jersey City is very nice.

Jersey City Heights has an Orthodox synagogue and a community is growing there, its mixed Chabad and other Orthodox, its also mixed in terms of FFB and BT which is nice. Check out Congregation Mt Sinai, Rabbi Shlomo Marks.

Hoboken has a Chabad, Rabbi Moshe Shapiro, great guy, he performed my wedding. his email address is rabbi@chabadhoboken.com He has been in Hoboken for 12 years.

Theres also the cottage street shul in Jersey City, Rabbi Noah Kuperman, of Chabad.

Seriously, forget Tenafly, Teaneck and all that, your commute into NYC would be brutal. Hoboken would give you a 15-20 minute commute by train and you wouldn't even need to own a car.

Also check out www.hudsonjewish.org it lists all Jewish resources of all kinds in Hudson County NJ.

I'd recommend starting with Rabbi Shapiro of Chabad of Hoboken.

My comments were based on the assumption that he was asking about a Chabad shul, Mt Sinai in jersey city is not a Chabad shul
Also there is not a daily Minyan ,not in Jersey city ,not in Hoboken
