I am NEW to Chabad

I was not sure where to post this so I am hoping I am doing this the right way. I have been away from Judaism for many years and have recently returned with a vengence due to our Chabad Rabbi. I had a very strong Orthodox upbringing and studied Cantorial liturgy for a number of years. I have served as a Cantor in 3 synagogues, but left the "fold " years ago.

If this makes any sense, I was fortunate to walk out of a Conservative shul on the first day of Rosh Hashana when a woman cantor recited the amida during musaf and added a list of womans names to our forefathers in the opening of the Musaf amida. I went home and remembered that there was a Chabad shul here. I went on the 2nd day of Rosh Hashana and have continued going back every holdiay and every Shabbat. There is a great deal to learn about Chabad.....I was asked to conduct Musaf services this past Shabbat and sang certain melodies that I grew up with, one of them being Yismchu bmalchutcha.....where the words SHOMREI SHABBAT are repeated numerous times during the course of this piece. I just found out that you cannot repeat words during services.

I have been trying to find detailed books on Chabad so that I can learn the correct methods of the services. Are there such books available??

Sorry for this rambling but I am so grateful for my Rabbi and the Chabad movement. We recently returned from a trip to NY and had the opportunity to go to the OHEL as well as 770 on Simchat Torah evening.

It is a pleasure to welcome you to Chabad Talk and to Chabad. This web site is a great resource for Chabad and Torah areas. Just do a search for a topic of your choosing or simply open up the different areas and read away. If you have questions, feel free to post and hopefully, you will get an answer or some direction on how to find an answer.
Since you have the fortune of being close to a Chabad Rabbi, he would be a great resource and would, no doubt, direct you in the right direction as well.

I would recommend the book Sefer Minhagim Chabad, to learn about the customs of Chabad in davening and along with the other areas of Jewish life.

It seems from your post that you are off to a great start. Much success in your journey!

Your story is very inspiring.

It shows the holiness and faith of the Jewish soul, and the caring and wisdom of Chabad.

Your past cantorial experience combined with your renewed energy and excitement will surely bring much benefit to your synagogue members and yourself.

Here is a link which may be helpful.

Hope to hear good news.

Thank you

I would like to thank all of you for your kind words and help. I will definitely search out these books.

It continues to amaze me how GREAT the Chabad movement is. It has given me new life as well as a wonderful perspective on Judaism that will remain with me for the rest of my life. Again thank you

Hi all

Hi to everyone,
My name is Yiorgos i come from Greece and just like to know what you think of Greeks? Is there any animosity between our people, a hidden agenda?
The reason i'm asking this is because for years i've been listening to things like, jews hate Greeks, they are behind this behind that etc.
I thought the best way to find out what you think of us is to directly ask you guys.
Thanks in advance.

we have complains against Antiochus, that like 2282 years ago decreed with death penalty against Shabbos observance, Brith Mila, learning Torah and rosh chodesh
as well as burning Torah scrolls

But we do not have anything against you

I don't think that the Greeks of today are really the same nation as those of Hanukka times. In any case, have no problem with Greeks or any nationality, and I welcome you to learn about the message of Judaism for you, the Noahide laws--see here.

Hi,
Your comments are very welcomed by me and i'm sure all Greeks. Like many people around the globe we have a problem with the zionists, you know the rumours about them trying to take over the world etc. Give me your opinion about them.
Are you familiar with a story of an uprising of Jewish people in Cyprus during the Roman occupation that resulted in the death of dozens of thousands of Greeks?
Also about the racial continuity of the Greeks we are largely the same.

Have a good weekend and looking forward to your reply.

Yiorgos.

You may be descended from the Greeks of old, but have you maintained the same culture over the ages?

Hello!
I'm not sure where to post either! Maybe a 'welcome' page would be nice??? Maybe there is one and I can't find it yet.........

I've been away from Judaism all my life, and only just rediscovering my family heritage. It's been such a Blessing that the major presence on the internet is Chabad.org!!
I initially intended to go the 'conservative/reform' route (the 'soft' option )......I guess Hashem decided that Chabad Lubavitch would be my best home!!
(PS.......I'm an expat in China, and DESPERATELY looking for a Rabbi....or even a fellow Jew!! There must be one??.....)

Shalom Aleichem

It's the first I've heard about it! It's hogwash. Hate sites are not reliable sources of information, to say the least.

Thank You for replying to my post!!
Forgive me.......I'm feeling really 'alone' right now........China is strange.......and I'm "assaulted" (Yes!! literally!) every day by proselytising Xtians!! Shame on China!!
Please, anyone......if you know any fellow Jew (Chabad, please!) in China, please connect me with them! I've emailed the Chabad in Yiwu, but have had no response.........the closest Chabad to me (but, it is summer vacation here!).
I just want to celebrate Shabbos with ONE fellow Jew.......how else is it possible to share the Kiddush??
G-d alone hears our cries.......our hearts cry out in the wilderness to Him......."How long must we wait, oh L-rd!!??".

Moshiach Now!!

Hashem bless and guide you all.........
With love,
Judith
