How about a Maamar from Chassidus Mevueres? That way you'll be learning as if with someone older who knows what they are talking about.

Or how about a Kuntres, for example Kuntres Simcha U'Bitachon BaHashem, where there are short pieces, but all adding to a general understanding of one inyan?

Or maybe Heichaltzu, referring to an English translation when necessary?
