As a camper or counselor? For a boy or girl?

Last week Chayalot (Florida) was still looking. Not sure if they've found whoever they need yet.
Good Luck

what to expect at camp

My daughter will be going to Camp Emunah from out of town. Any practical suggestions, advice that I should give here or info on what to expect etc... (aside from the official informaiton that we have received.) is appreciated. She is my oldest and so this whole overnight camp thing is new to us.

Thanks.

Some random tips:

- When the camp says "put your name on EVERYTHING" they mean it
- Don't bring anything if you would be devastated if it got lost/broken/stolen
- Prepare your daughter in advance:
a) There will be inappropriate topics discussed, decide how you want to address that
b) There will be more "choshuve" girls behaving in a way less Halachicly acceptable, again address that
- If you know of an older girl that will be a camper there as well, ask her to keep an eye on your daughter

I am sending boys to CGI in NY, do I have to prepare them in advance for the above too? just curious.

I'm not sure...I think boys have different issues than girls do. But make sure that your child has a strong sense of identity, so that they don't get smushed in the crowd (it's a good thing to have, anyway...).

What are the 'issues' that boys have?
Good point about identity.

I wouldn't know specifics, as Baruch...shelo asani ish. But there are the issues-ask a male. Peer pressure, however, is one that you'll find anywhere and everywhere, though in different forms.

More random tips:

- If your daughter is a picky eater, you may need to send food. There will be PB&J by every meal (I believe that is still the case), however.
- If she doesn't know how to make her bed or fold her own clothing, teach her now
- Pre-address and stamp postcards if you want to receive letters
- Unless she never wears an article of clothing more than once before washing it, she doesn't need as many as stated on the list
- Even if she starts crying every time she speaks to you, it doesn't mean she hates camp- just when she talks to you, she gets more homesick. Speak to her counselors if you're worried.
- Make sure she has some family pictures to look at

Emunah Visiting Day

I have a couple of questions regarding visiting day.

First, since I am out of town, my sister who lives in Manhattan will be visiting my daughter. The shortline schedule from Manhattan is a bit sparse. Is there any kind of bus service from Crown Heights to Emunah on visiting day or in general on sundays?

Also, what happens on visiting day? Is there an organized program? So far it has been hard to get in touch with the camp. So any info. would be helpful.

Thanks.
